FGV & TSA WORKSHOP ON METHODS AND ARCHIVAL RESEARCH IN BRAZIL
- GLOBAL HISTORY AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS -

The Center for International Relations at the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV), in partnership with the Transatlantic Studies Association (TSA), invites proposals for the FGV-TSA Workshop on Methods and Archival Research in Brazil, to be held from May 9 to May 11 2016 in Rio de Janeiro. The Workshop is a three-day seminar in which graduate students receive training in studying and conducting archival research on Global History and IR from Brazilian experts and world-class faculty and invited policymakers. The Workshop will focus on the relationship between history and international relations, emphasizing new historiographical debates and theoretical and methodological approaches of the Humanities. Participants will also work with each other, the organizers and invited policymakers in a series of exercises analyzing selected archival material and oral history collections hold by FGV*.
Objectives of the Workshop include: (1) enhance the analytical complexity of on-going research; (2) internationalize FGV by building connections between South Atlantic, North Atlantic, and other international scholars; (3) promote collaborative international and transnational research networks; (4) share knowledge, archival sources, and research techniques in Global History and International Relations.
FGV will cover transportation costs, hostel accommodation and board for participants coming from Brazil. For those coming from abroad, FGV will provide hostel accommodation and board. All sessions will be held in Portuguese at the FGV headquarters in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Participants are required to attend all sessions.
Applications may be submitted either in Portuguese or English and should include the following: curriculum vitae (for those affiliated to Brazilian institutions, a Lattes CV), and an abstract of the research project (max.500 words). All application materials should be submitted via e-mail to ri@fgv.br

The deadline for applications is March 7, 2016.

Successful applicants will receive a reading list prior to the workshop.

*FGV holds more than 250 Private Papers collections, including several from former Presidents and Minister of Foreign Relations, and more than 1.000 transcriptions of interviews conducted by the pioneer Oral History Program in Brazil since the early 1970’s.
