São Paulo School of Economics, Fundação Getúlio Vargas

São Paulo, 21-22 August 2017

Keynote speaker: William Summerhill, UCLA

CALL FOR PAPERS: deadline 20 November 2017

Sovereign debt is a financial as well as a political topic. Politics shapes the way governments borrow and repay. The interaction between politics and sovereign debt is a currently relevant topic to which historical research may offer significant contribution. This workshop aims to discuss the implications of political institutions in the way the governments of Latin America have managed their debts. The workshop in open to papers on any time range which focus on the region as a whole or on specific Latin American countries. The organisers particularly welcome interdisciplinary and data-driven perspectives on fiscal policy, long-term patterns of taxation and government spending, political economy of domestic/foreign debt and defaults, and governments' attitude towards capital flows and international financial supervision.

The workshop will be held at the São Paulo School of Economics (EESP-FGV) during 21-22 August 2017. The interested participants are required to submit a 500-words abstract and title together with their CV to workshoplatam2017@gmail.comby 20 November 2016. The organisers, Leonardo Weller (EESP) and Coskun Tuncer (UCLA), greatly acknowledge the financial support by the British Academy.

Best Regards,

Leonardo Weller, EESP-FGV
Coskun Tuncer, UCL
