45th Annual EBHS Conference
Atlanta, Georgia
May 28-30, 2020
The 45th Economic and Business History Society (EBHS) Annual Conference will be held in Atlanta, Georgia at the Sheraton Atlanta Downtown. Our general theme is Economic and Business History at the Crossroads. Here we would encourage reflections on ‘crossroads’, as sign of cultural and commercial interchange, geographic meeting places, exchanges and entrepots, and temporal and historical moments of divergence and contingency. However, individual proposals for presentations on any aspect of economic, business, or financial history are welcome, as are proposals for whole panels. We also encourage submissions from graduate students and non-academic affiliates.
Atlanta is in many ways the capital city of the southern United States. It has a long history as a crossroads, either for railroads, highways, or airways–as well as being of critical importance in the Civil Rights Movement. The city boasts some of most iconic Civil Rights Era landmarks and museums, as well as being home to a number of major American corporations. Optional tours will be available at both the Civil Rights Museum, and the World of Coca-Cola. Atlanta also features a variety of sports, music, and restaurants that will interest conference participants. Our keynote address will by made by Professor Anne McCants who is the MacVicar Faculty Fellow and Professor of History at MIT.
Atlanta is well known for its wonderful music scene, collegiate and professional sports, and amazing food. The Conference will be headquartered at the Sheraton Atlanta, located in downtown Atlanta, close to the Peachtree Center and easily accessed by car or via MARTA mass transit system. The Hartfield-Jackson Atlanta international airport¬ is one of the busiest and best connected in the world, offering ease of access from all over the world.
Proposals should include an abstract of no more than 500 words and contact details. The deadline for submission of proposals is January 15, 2020. The Program Chair will send a notification of acceptance of abstracts by February 1, 2020. Online registration will be available soon after at www.ebhsoc.org. Proposals may be submitted through the EBHS website or by email to the program chair and/or the President.
If you have further questions about the meeting or organization please contact Program Chair Craig McMahon (craig.mcmahon@villanova.edu) or EBHS 2020 President Simon Mollan (simon.mollan@york.ac.uk).
We look forward to welcoming you to Atlanta!

Detroit, do declinio ao renascimento: Economic and Business History Society 2019
Call for Papers
44th Annual EBHS Conference
44th Annual EBHS Conference
Detroit, Michigan
June 5 to 8, 2019
Detroit Michigan is uniquely positioned for attendees to experience both past and present relationships between the world of commerce and the urban experience. The “Motor City” has been the long-time center of the American auto industry and earned the title of the “Arsenal of Democracy” for its industrial output in World War II. In more recent times, the City filed for the largest municipal bankruptcy in American history and is presently emerging as a revitalized city, featuring a revitalized downtown populated by some of the most innovative companies in the United States today.
The Conference will be headquartered at the historic Fort Shelby Hotel, first opened in 1917. In 2007, this famous Albert Kahn designed facility benefitted from an $80 million restoration and modernization.
Our conference social program and keynote events will focus on Detroit’s manufacturing heritage as well as its urban rebirth process. The conference optional tour will be to The Henry Ford, which feature the Henry Ford Museum and outdoor Greenfield Village. The Henry Ford’s collections include Thomas Edison’s Menlo Lab complex, Abraham Lincoln’s assassination chair, John F. Kennedy’s assassination limousine, the Rosa Parks bus, and much more.
Detroit also features a rich variety of sports, music and restaurants that will interest conference participants.
Proposals should include an abstract of no more than 500 words and contact details. The deadline for submission of proposals is February 15, 2019. The Program Chair will send a notification of acceptance of abstracts by March 1, 2019. Online registration will be available soon after at www.ebhsoc.org.
