Bem, como eu sou um sujeito que escreve umas tantas coisas sobre esses temas, sou citado da seguinte forma: 

"This generally positive assessment of Lula’s policy is challenged in a whole section devoted to “critical interpretations” (1:199–283). Paulo Roberto de Almeida—Itamaraty’s foremost “detached intellectual”7—proposes a sharp, if slightly sloppy, assessment of Lula’s diplomacy, arguing in particular that the latter’s efforts have failed to build a tighter South American community around Mercosul; to expand alliances in the global South; or to leverage the whole to gain influence and status, particularly at the United Nations (1:249–259)."

A nota 7 remete ao trabalho de Karl Mannheim, Ideology and Utopia (London: Routledge, 1936).

Vejamos, então, para os que não conhecem muito o inglês: 

Foremost, nos dicionários, é traduzido como "Ahead of all others, especially in position or rank; paramount."

Grato pela parte que me toca, pelo menos no Itamaraty...

detached intellectual, remete a um conceito de Mannheim, que resulta em significar que eu não faço parte do bando, ou seja, que sou um outcast, ou dissidente, numa linguagem mais agressiva. Numa linguagem mais neutra, eu seria independente da ideologia dominante. Aliás, o livro de Mannheim é justamente sobre ideologia e utopia. Acho que não escorrego em nenhuma das duas, os outros é que se expliquem...

sharp, if slightly sloppy: avaliação aguda, mas não sistemática, ou levemente sem cuidado...; bem, aí já é a interpretação do autor da resenha-artigo, e não me cabe responder. Costumo escrever o que eu eu penso, não o que os outros esperam que eu diga...
