Social Science Research Network: Report of the President
SSRN's 2014 Year-End President's Letter
December 19, 2014

SSRN has delivered over 81 million full-text PDF downloads to date and users currently download close to 1 million PDFs per month. We expect to reach the 100 million download milestone in early 2016. The SSRN eLibrary currently has 581,000 paper abstracts from 269,000 authors and our CiteReader technology, built with ITX Corp., has extracted 9 million references and 9.1 million footnotes, and matched 6 million citations from our 482,000 full text papers. We are pleased to see the broad connections SSRN is making within the academic community.

In 2014, there were several examples of SSRN's impact on the larger scholarly world. The World Bank report in May showed the diverse benefits of using both SSRN and an institutional repository for sharing scholarly research. We connected the SSRN eLibrary with ORCiD last month; SSRN authors with ORCID IDs in their record will get proper credit for their research submitted to SSRN by journals that include ORCID IDs in their submissions. In October, we were honored to receive the Three Luminaries Award from The International Council for Small Business and The George Washington University Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence for our commitment to Open Access and support of entrepreneurship. This was an important year for expanding SSRN's reach beyond the social sciences in the USA and we are very proud of our accomplishments.

Our year-end distribution break is scheduled for Monday, 22 December 2014 through Sunday, 4 January 2015. During the break, SSRN's eJournals will not be distributed so that we can improve the performance of our servers and ensure the highest quality system performance. We will continue to provide support for downloads, submissions, and subscriptions but there will be periods of time during the break when the site is unavailable.

For any requests during the break, please contact customer support at SSRNSupport@SSRN.com or call toll free 877-SSRNHelp (877-777-6435). Outside of the United States, call +1 585 442 8170. We are available Monday through Friday between 8:30AM and 6:00PM, United States Eastern time.

Please share your feedback and experiences about SSRN with me directly at Gregg_Gordon@SSRN.com or use our "Feedback to SSRN" link available on most SSRN web pages. Our team is always interested to hear how SSRN affects you personally, and I am always happy to connect and talk about scholarly communication.

Thank you for your continued support!

Gregg Gordon
