Colombia: Leader of FARC’s 5th Front dies in military operation
BOGOTÁ, Colombia – Maximiliano Bonilla Orozco, alias “Valenciano,” the head of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia’s (FARC) 5th Front, died in a military operation at the western Department of Chocó, authorities said.
The alleged terrorist spent 23 years in the guerrillas, authorities said, and was in charge of managing the finances and the production and recollection of cocaine paste produced in the areas of Cañón de Mulatos and Corregimiento de Saiza, in Chocó.
Authorities also announced on Aug. 8 that eight alleged FARC guerrillas turned themselves in to the navy in the town of Bocas de Satinga in the department of Nariño, which borders Ecuador.
The alleged terrorists are suspected of belonging to the “Daniel Aldana” column of the FARC.
The terrorist organization also is suspected of perpetrating an early morning attack on Aug. 8 against a rail line connecting the Cerrejón rail line in the northern department of La Guajira, which borders Venezuela.
